Développé front isn’t just about the working leg, it’s about the supporting leg too.

We certainly need good hamstring and hip flexibility but let’s say all that is good but we are still struggling. For me I always found I had to look at what was going on in my glutes.

Number one, am I really using the wrap of the thighs and deep external rotators on the supporting leg enough.
γ

Yes, the psoas plays a key role in lifting the working leg, but if you’re not fully engaged in your supporting side, you’re missing half the equation.

The more you feel your turnout, the wrap of your thigh, and the length in your supporting leg ( not sitting back into it) the more freedom you’ll have to lift the other leg higher.

This can be such a common program and sometimes it’s nothing to do with the flexibility of your legs at all.
γ

It can be due to strength in the hips, core, thighs, obliques, psoas, as well as range in your lower back, obliques and QL. You’ll be so surprised at how a tight QL can majorly impact your extensions.
γ

Have you ever seen how some dancers are super flexible in their legs but they shift a lot in the body. This can be because their Psoas is weak, tight and also their QL needs a lot of proper lengthening.
γ
€
When you do your box splits on the floor, make sure you really ground your sitting bones, so you’re adequately stretching the side of the body.
